I think it was made in the late 60s. Does anyone have a schematic for this model? I couldn't find a SAMS for it.

Magnavox data is usually found by chassis number, not model number...

Thank you for your reply. I looked carefully but couldn't find a chassis number anywhere on or in the set. Would you happen to have a model-to-chassis cross reference by chance?

Look for numbers stamped in ink with a rubber stamp on the metal chassis of the tuner or amplifier. Could be numbers like CR723-BA, AMP142-AA, 57-10-00, or 9304-01. Sometimes on top, sometimes on the sides.

Generally not printed on a paper tag or label stapled or glued to the wood of the cabinet. Usually ink directly on the metal case of the component.

I guess also it could be solid state; I don't know much about those.

Model number is similar to this one:

Yes, it is a solid state MAGNAVOX ASTRO-SONIC with AM/FM radio and record changer, and similar to 1P3762.
No, there is no chassis number. On the tuner there is a label with the specs for it. On the heat sink there is an "engraved"
part number for it. There are no other numbers that I can see on the chassis.
If somebody could upload a schematic for my model or similar, it would be greatly appreciated.

Most likely, it was made by Morse Electro Products Inc. They made a number of these combo units under various names. If you Google search Electrophonic (I think that was the Morse house brand) or Electrophonic stereo, you might spot your model under that name. They also made several models with the Lafayette label.

The chassis number for that age Magnavox would have been on a small paper tag about the size of a postage stamp. I've seen it stuck all over the place on the chassis even on a filter capacitor can. The top row of numbers on the tag is the chassis number and will look something like Rxxx xx xx. Model number designations with the 4 digit 3743 number started in the late 60's prior years were 3 digit as in 743. A 1P3743 was definitely not built by any one other than Magnavox most likely in either Ft Wayne, IN or Greenville, TN.

From your pictures it looks like the model number is what they show as "unit number" ending in PE01. The R34403BA stamped number may be the radio chassis number, and the W750 may refer to the record changer. The cartridge you show that's missing part of it's needle is a Tetrad brand. T2MD, I think, is the needle number it uses.

The model is not the same as the unit number but close. It appear's to be a model 6746 from 1977, 12 watts per ch. A full frontal view might help. This look like yours?

Sams doesn't list that number - closest I found was R34303 in folder 1672-3 (1977)

Thanks fellas. Also I'm having issues with the right side speakers. They sound very distorted, but when I switch to the external speakers they sound distorted also. So could it be the Potentiometer? Thanks again.!

This is a mid 70's unit. The electronics were built by Magnavox.

You can get the needle from Gary at thevoiceofmusic.com

You also need to clean the controls. Are the speakers distorted on all channels or just the record player?

remove the back first. Take note of the wires going to the speakers and the record player. Take pictures because you are going to have to put them back just like they were.

The record player wiring is plugged into the motorboard usually with plastic plugs. Take pictures and pull the plugs from their sockets on the underside of the turntable. Disconnect the speaker wires from the chassis.

Open the top and remove all the knobs from the controls. Look very carefully for clips or sunken nuts holding the plastic face on. Take picture of what you find, and remove the clips and/or nuts, lifting the plastic piece up and away from the controls. If you are lucky, you MIGHT be able to clean the controls from that point. If you are still lost, take pictures and we'll help you.
be advised that even though is a mid 70's solid state unit,i it's really time to replace the caps, especially since you said the sound was distorted on all channels.

One step at a time, post pics as you go, and we'll help you.
